Sybase DBA - 450-500 p/d contract london - 4 months
My Client are a Large Financial service company who are looking from a Sybase.
Key areas of responsibility are:
* Work with all parties to provide services to agreed SLA’s and OLA’s
* Provide design, engineering and administration support for the existing RDBMS architecture. Including reviews of proposed management strategies and database design.
* Proactively review technical architecture, processes, provisions and suppliers to ensure that all aspects of the service are provided in an efficient manner
* Ensure compliance with departmental policies (i.e. change management, IT security standards, release management, incident management)
* Mentor and support DBAs, developers and other staff in efficient database server management
* Ensure that new developments comply with standards and complement the database architecture.
** Support and assist internal IT and Business projects at all stages from architecture through to production implementation.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
It is expected with limited supervision the candidate will be able to deliver each of the key objectives of the role identified above. It is therefore expected that he or she will have:
* Degree level education in technology or an associated technical specialism or equivalent experience
* Excellent customer facing skills
* Experience of managing others
* Detailed knowledge and experience of RDBMS (Sybase, MSSQL) architectures and engineering
* Commercial experience of database administration and development within a production finance environment including the management, administration, development, and deployment of enterprise applications
* Performance tuning and optimisation of Sybase ASE 15 and SQL queries and procedures
* Excellent engineering level knowledge and experience of the following technologies: RDBMS (Sybase), Linux, UNIX.
* Knowledge or appreciation of in RDBMS replication, data warehouses and time series data
* Appreciation of a 24X7 global operation and associated support responsibilities
* Excellent general IT knowledge and experience
* Good communication skills and capable of dealing with members of staff at all levels and capable of representing the IT Service Delivery department at the highest level
* Exposure or some knowledge of some of the following is desirable, in order of priority;
* RDBMS engineering (Sybase, MSSQL, Interbase),
* UNIX (Linux/Solaris/HP),
* Management strategies for financial tick data.
* Market data platforms (e.g. RMDS, TIBCO)
* Excellent documentation skills
* Demonstrable experience of managing and delivering project objectives to agreed criteria and time scales
* ITIL certification and experience of working in an ITIL environment
* Shell scripting
