SQL DBA - Our client, a prestigious Health Insurance Business, are seeking a self-sufficient SQL DBA to join their team based out of West London. Your role will consist of providing pro-active and/or reactive specialised technical support for the companies production SQL server estate, which encompasses SQL 2000 through to 2012 within a 24/7 environment. Their databases are huge so if you like this kind of environment, it’s a great place to be. You will also provide and implement technical solutions in support of business and information systems projects as well as providing technical consultancy in their designated area of technical speciality. Day to day responsibilities (but not limited to):
*Support and maintenance of the SQL environments in line with agreed service level agreements.
*To provide input to the Technical Team Leader in the overall development of technical plans
*Act as a technical consultant where appropriate, providing advice and guidance relating to their area of technical speciality
*Ensure that quality solutions are developed, tested, and delivered in line with current IS policies, standards and procedures, within timescales and to budget
*Monitor the performance of the infrastructure and carry out tuning exercises as appropriate to ensure optimal performance.
*Identify single points of failure and weaknesses within the infrastructure and identify options for resolution.
*To provide input to the formation of the annual technology refresh programme
*Conduct problem analysis and liaise with external suppliers to ensure appropriate fixes are applied to all identified problems.
*To develop effective working relationships with colleagues across IS ensuring optimum delivery of support and project tasks.
*Ensure support documentation exists and is up to date for all infrastructure components.
*Ensure knowledge is documented at all times, and that you do not become a "single point of failure” within the team.
*Constantly look for opportunities to improve the level of support offered for the same cost, including evaluation of third party software and tools to automate repetitive tasks.
*Understand your role in a disaster recovery scenario in accordance with the department’s business continuity plans.
*Undertake demonstrations and presentations and prepare reports as required
*To deputise as may be required for the Technical Team Leader

Experience required:
*A high level of expertise and knowledge in SQL Server DBA 2000/2003/2005/2008/2010/2012
*Experience of resolving performance issues
*An ability to debug TSQL code
*Experience of building and understanding clusters
*Good working knowledge of security
*High Availability - Clustering, Log shipping. Mirroring
*Strong Analysis and Reporting skills
*Knowledge of Netbackup
*Good project experience and knowledge of ITIL and Agile working practices.
*Any experience with C# or VB.Net would be an absolute plus.
