Technical Specialist (Server and Storage)
Highly successful organisation in Leeds requires a Technical Specialist to join their highly accomplished team.
You will be responsible for day to day support of server and storage Infrastructure. This will include incident resolution, problem management, capacity management, implementing hardware and software, developing the current infrastructure and providing technical solutions to problems. Following ITIL best practices, your goal is to be pro active to maintain a stable environment and provide quick and effective response to service impacting issues as and when they occur.
The ins and outs
* Commissioning of new hardware/software
* Incident Resolution
* Root cause analysis
* Major incident response
* Capacity planning
* Identify Technical solutions
* Monitoring and 3rd line support
* Develop the existing infrastructure
What you’ll need:
* A thorough understanding of MS Windows server and /or UNIX and Linux operating systems
* Understanding of networking principles
* Experience of enterprise storage systems (SAN and Fibre Switching)
* Experience of a large virtual server environment
* Experience of enterprise level monitoring systems
* A good understanding of ITIL processes particularly problem management and capacity planning
* Excellent problem solving skills
* A basic understanding of programming languages
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
* Plenty of motivation and initiative.
Key Skills:
* Windows Server 2003/2008, clustering and/or UNIX or Linux (RHEL or SLES)
* Microsoft Active Directory and Group Policy
* Administration and implementation of VMWare ESX/ESXI and Vsphere
* Administration of SAN storage systems and fibre switching preferably EMC storage
* Microsoft Exchange 2010
* Administration of backup solutions
* Administration and implementation of Monitoring systems particularly SCOM and SCOM.
* Citrix XenServer and XenApp would be desirable
This role would ideally fit someone that has a solid background in supporting server and storage systems in an enterprise environment but is now looking to progress into a proactive role that delivers solutions to larger problems and develops the existing infrastructure.
