Head of Server Technology (Windows & UNIX)

Head of IT / It manager / Windows / UNIX / Leadership / Management / Change

My client is a leading Investment Bank based in London. They require a 'Head of Server Technologies' covering both Windows and UNIX to join them on a permanent basis.


The purpose of the role is to provide management across the teams, deliver first class services and support across the server platforms to meet the bank’s business requirements, driving excellence in execution, innovation, cost control, strategic direction and business alignment.

Key Responsibilities:
* Management of the Windows & Unix server teams and all associated services
* OS deployment, configuration, support & maintenance. Windows, Linux, Solaris
* Patch Management & Technical Security Compliance
* Audit Controls & Processes
* Incident Management
* Change Management
* Business Continuity Monitoring & Capacity Management
* Manage vendor relationships, hold regular service review meetings, technology roadmaps.
* Establish and maintain high performing teams
* Collaborate with key application groups to drive utilisation of our services and increase the value provided to the business.
* Build and publish the roadmap for individual services in collaboration with Enterprise groups.
* Review metrics, monitoring and system reports for a higher level of information.
* Anticipate and quantify tactical, operational and strategic risks, applying risk-based approach to forecasting
* Promote innovative or improved methods to get the work done and implements best practices
* Seek out industry trends and organisation knowledge to understand alternative approaches/solutions
* Provide financial oversight and control for Intel & Unix running costs, associated budgets and forecasts, reallocation methodologies and reporting processes.
* Work to recruit, retain and develop high calibre talent.
* Provide effective performance management through coaching, mentoring and continual feedback.
* Develop and communicate measurable goals and objectives for your direct reports, ensuring performance standards for each employee are aligned to those of the business. Review these during the course of the year, to ensure that they are still relevant.
* Ensure that all direct reports receive at least one formal performance appraisal each year, as well as continuous performance feedback during the course of the year.

Experience Required:
* Experience managing high performance teams in similar environments for an Investment Bank
* Background supporting mission critical systems.
* Understanding business challenges and providing solutions.
* General knowledge of factors affecting business

Technical Skills/Knowledge Required:

* Server Technologies & Solutions including, Windows, Linux, Solaris
* Messaging solutions, Exchange, BES, Archive
* High Availability solutions.
* Storage platforms and solutions, SAN & NAS
* Networking solutions and topologies, load balancing, layer2/3…
* Monitoring and Alerting tools & solutions
* Knowledge of underlying Infrastructure components and platforms.
