Java Software Engineering Manager (Development manager) - Java Agile/Scrum J2EE Spring TDD
Our client, one of the world’s leading Media & Publishing companies is seeking a Software Engineering Manager / Development Manager due to the current job holder moving up in to the Head of Engineering role of which this role will be reporting in to.
Job Description:
*Effective people management of direct reports
*Planning and implementation of projects assigned to your team
*Financial forecasting and cost management for projects in your team
*Operational efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering team
*Productivity and performance of development teams
*Customer satisfaction
*Agile methodology is consistently used, where applicable
Specific responsibilities:
People and Resource Management
*Line manage the full-time team including performance management and skills/development and career plans
*Recruit and manage contract resources within your team
*Protect the team
Planning and Delivery
*Monitor quality, productivity and performance of Scrum teams, initiating improvements as necessary.
*Work with analysis teams to capture and prioritise stories within the product backlog. Translate business requirements into technical delivery artefacts.
*Ensure that key ownership behaviour and collaboration are observable using sprint planning, sizing and estimating processes, daily stand-up meetings and retrospectives.
*Ensure quality and engineering standards are met
*Ensure delivered software meets its acceptance criteria
*Oversee release planning, ensuring quality gates are met
*Manage technical risks, issues and dependencies
Engineering and SCRUM practice leadership
*Champion and coach the Scrum process, ensuring a level of consistency and adoption across the team
*Contribute to improving engineering standards and practices in the department, including development approach and coding standards
*Continually review, assess and improve processes to maximise quality, productivity and performance
Desired Skills & Experience
*Experience as a Development Manager, Technical Delivery Manager or Scrum Master within a large scale Java house.
*Deep understanding of development/engineering practices
*Ex-developer, with good understanding of engineering and coding standards
*Experience managing people, including those sourced from third parties
*Agile in a fast moving environment
