My client is a world renowed financial services firm located in the heart of the city of London. THey seek a SQL DBA to supplement their current team.

Typical users sit in middle or back-office areas, and the typical buyer would be a senior operations person.
All instances of the solution are hosted by the Exchange. It is a ';rich internet application’, written in Java with a SQL Server back end, and pure HTML/Javascript front end.
Due to continued organic growth, we are looking for a new member for the Solutions Team. The Solutions Team are responsible for building business solutions by configuring the basic platform, in accordance with requirements gathered by product management.
The team is run along similar lines to a software company: the culture of the team is dynamic, and requires each individual to adapt rapidly to change, contribute fully and think on their feet. This role involves ongoing interaction with all other areas (sales, pre-sales, prof services, development & QA, customer support, technical writing, marketing), as well as with customers.



Key responsibilities
* Build new solutions on the platform in accordance with requirements prioritised by product management.
* Ensure existing and new solutions are optimized and scalable to ensure on-going support requirements are minimized.
* Be or become highly knowledgeable in the relevant business domains.
* Work with product management and customers to ensure that business solutions are correctly designed and built.
* Work with pre-sales to ensure that demo versions of the solutions are delivered.
* Provide internal training both for others in the team, and for other groups in the Exchange.
* Work with development, professional services, QA and support teams to ensure that business solutions are delivered to plan and customers are satisfied.
* Ensure that all work is in accordance with the defined application development lifecycle process.
* Document system features and behaviour.

Candidate Profile / Key Skills
* General experience
* Ideally someone with a development/DBA background.
* Broad technical background.
* Customer-facing experience.
* Technical skills
* Very strong knowledge of SQL is essential.
* DBA skills/detailed knowledge of SQL Server optimization is key.
* Knowledge of various network transports, with hands-on experience with file transfer (SFTP), general networking, and ideally knowledge of SWIFT and FIX.
* Understanding of related technologies, including HTML, XML, Javascript, Java.
* Business knowledge (not critical for this role)
* Business processes - some background or exposure to middle/back office financial processes, especially:
 regulatory reporting
 post-trade processes for multiple asset classes
 reconciliations
 general familiarity with middle- and back-office processes at investment banks, buy-side firms, and prime brokers/custodians
* Financial messaging - some knowledge of/exposure to SWIFT/ FIX/ FpML, with preference to those with experience in mapping & business analysis of these flows.
* Process knowledge
* Understanding of the application development lifecycle and related methodologies (waterfall, agile, etc.)
* Familiarity with tools relevant to the above - e.g. hands on use of systems for requirements gathering and bug tracking, documentation tools, CRM systems, etc.
* Communication skills
* Good written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to accurately document technical work.
* Educated to degree level, engineering/science degree preferred.
