Network monitoring / SMARTS / HP toolkt / design / architecture
Department criteria:
Working within the Network Engineering team, primarily responsible for developing and engineering global network management platform and software standards, and managing projects within the network management and data network areas. This includes but is not limited to; testing and evaluating vendor platforms and software, developing configuration designs and deployment guidelines and methodologies to assist in the creation of stable, scalable solutions that drive business performance and efficiency, documentation of designs, operations service handover interfacing and third line support technical expertise.
* Assisting in the definition of network management evolution and strategy
* Assisting in defining architecture and standards
* Self managing and detailed planning of high profile projects and complex designs
* Providing third line support and technical expertise
* Product evaluation, testing and selection
* Providing detailed documentation (design implementation plans/diagrams)
* Oversee network implementation and administration
* Updating / Training operations staff
* Project management (design, develop and implement Network Projects)
* Design and configuration creation and implementation planning
* Driving process and cost efficiency
Key objectives critical to success:
* Under minimal supervision, manages the strategy, availability, migrations, upgrades, installations and performance and capacity planning for the various management & monitoring systems within the network infrastructure
* Liaises with the various teams involved in the delivery and use of network management & monitoring systems to drive process and cost efficiency
* Develops and delivers processes and documentation relating to standards, procedures and reporting of network management system responsibilities
Skills, experience, qualifications and knowledge required
* Requires very strong knowledge and experience of core network management / monitoring technologies
* Requires strong systems administration skills of industry leading network management / monitoring systems (EMC SMARTS, HP NA, HP NNM, SevOne)
* Requires proficient skills in scripting (Perl, PHP, SQL)
* Requires proficient skills in Unix / Linux / Microsoft systems administration
* Requires proficient skills in packet analysis and network analysis tools
* Requires proficient skills in troubleshooting and analytical fault diagnosis
* Requires proficient skills in associated protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, NTP, SNMP, SYSLOG, ICMP, NETFLOW, Radius/TACACS) and IP management systems and processes
* An understanding of hardware architecture and design
* Experience of solution testing and test methodologies
* Experience of providing detailed design and deployment documentation
* Experience liaising with clients, vendors and internal departments
