My client is an industry leading commodities trading house. They seek an exceptional developer/support analyst to supplement their existing team. No previous knowledge of financial services or commodity trading is required so this is an excellent opportunity to get into this exciting industry.
Department
The Application Support team provides comprehensive front-line support for all applications to the trading floor ensuring best practise is applied to system support, upgrades, testing and procedures. The team has a broad range of complementary skills sets and is dynamic yet highly disciplined in its approach. As one of the interfaces between the business and the various IT departments, an understanding of the business context in which the trading applications are deployed is of paramount importance.
Position purpose
To provide support and development of an in-house energy trading and risk management system covering a broad range of energy commodities including power, gas, coal and freight.
Main responsibilities
* Design, develop, review, and test code for the energy trading system and other systems as appropriate.
* Implement strategic tactical projects.
* Diagnose and resolve day-to-day live system issues.
* Effectively record and monitor progress of issues raised, providing feedback to the business as required.
* Liaise with other support/development teams to resolve cross system issues.
Experience required
* Solid experience on a support desk responsible for front office production applications preferably in a commodity trading or investment bank.
Technical requirements
* Required skills are a strong working-knowledge of object-oriented design and development utilising PowerBuilder from version 8 upwards, PFC and strong Oracle PL/SQL skills.
Person specification
* Ability to work with demanding users in a fast paced trade floor environment.
* Have a broad understanding of the business context of the systems in use
* Ability to communicate subjects at different levels (with trading desks and development team members).
* Strong understanding of change control processes, time management and attention to detail.
* Must be structured, systematic and analytical in approach.
* Ability to work flexible hours as requested.
* Proactive and positive approach to work
40 hours per week + out of hours support
