My client, a prestigious retail organisation in the Midlands, is looking for a contract Microsoft SQL server DBA to work in Birmingham.
Paying between £300-£450 per day (experience dependent) they are looking to hire immediately but will wait two to three weeks for the right candidate.
Please find below a basic brief around the role.
The right candidate will be responsible for:
- Ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
- Working to ensure that the associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
- Proactively monitoring the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
- Providing trend analysis to management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
- Troubleshooting and problem solving of SQL.
- Improvement and maintenance of the databases to include rollout and upgrades.
- Implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs.
- Reviewing future development and providing design input to the architecture team.
- Developing a road map leading to a consolidated database platform
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- In depth SQL Server Database Administration experience.
- Experience of managing multiple MS SQL 2008 R2 & 2005 RDBMS on large systems
- Strong self-sufficiency and initiative working on Database projects
- Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
- Experience of Transactional SQL, and DTS stored procedures.
- Practical experience in managing the internal and external MS SQL database security
- Knowledge and understanding of data design and optimisation·
- Experience of working in BI and MI environments
